Understand before choosing
A review centred on your circumstances.
In France, a motor vehicle intended for use must be insured at least for third-party liability. Optional damage, theft, glass and assistance cover depend on the selected policy.
The compulsory foundation: third-party liability
Third-party motor insurance is the legal minimum. It covers the driver's or keeper's civil liability for damage caused to other people. It does not mean that damage to your own vehicle is insured.
Third party, extended or comprehensive cover
Commercial package names vary between insurers. The actual wording matters: accidental damage, theft, fire, glass, weather events, breakdown assistance, driver protection, deductibles and exclusions should all be checked.
Declare how the vehicle is really used
The policy must reflect the vehicle's actual use. A change of driver, mileage or use can alter the insured risk. Using a personal vehicle for business travel is not automatically covered by every personal motor policy.
