Motor insurance after cancellation for non-payment.

A cancellation for unpaid premium can make finding a new motor policy more difficult. We rebuild the case from the facts, the insurance record and the vehicle details.

01

Understand before choosing

A review centred on your circumstances.

Under French law, an unpaid premium follows a formal-notice process before cover can be suspended and the policy terminated. A new policy does not erase amounts still owed to the former insurer.

02

Reconstruct the history accurately

The cancellation date and reason, driver record, previous claims, vehicle use and driver profile are essential. Accurate disclosure helps prevent a new policy from being undermined by incomplete information.

03

Keep compulsory cover in place when the vehicle is used

A motor vehicle intended for use must at least carry third-party liability insurance. Where the standard market declines a case, some insurers and intermediaries consider previously cancelled drivers, but acceptance and pricing remain specific to each insurer.

04

A last-resort mechanism for compulsory liability cover

If no insurer will provide cover, the French Bureau Central de Tarification may, subject to its statutory procedure, set the premium at which a designated insurer must provide the compulsory third-party liability cover. This procedure does not automatically extend to optional guarantees.

Our approach

Compare the whole policy.

Price only makes sense alongside cover, deductibles, limits, exclusions and conditions. We collect the relevant information and present available solutions without promising cover that is not provided by the policy terms.

Questions

The essentials.

Can I obtain motor insurance again after cancellation for non-payment? +

Yes, a new policy remains possible, but insurers apply their own underwriting and pricing criteria. The application should be complete and accurate.

Does taking out a new policy cancel what I owe the former insurer? +

No. A new insurance contract does not erase amounts that may still be due under the previous policy.
